My Fourth
My Friends
Here in Texas it is too dang hot to go out and watch fireworks, so my wife and I have been relegated to watching the Fourth of July specials on the TV. But these so-called specials seem more oriented to promoting Broadway shows (Macy’s special in New York harbor) and even the Boston Pops rendition of the 1812 Overture (although a good accompaniment to fireworks) celebrates the wrong event. So we end up watching some really good patriotic music on YouTube. This year, instead of sharing my patriotic playlist after the fact, I thought it would be a good idea to give you the opportunity to enjoy this music on the Fourth of July. Here is My Fourth playlist.
Judy Collins, Battle Hymn of the Republic
Neil Diamond, Coming to America
Ray Charles, America the Beautiful
Red Skelton, Pledge of Allegiance
Whitney Houston, Star Spangled Banner
And while we’re at it, my Pride Month runs from June 14th to July 4th and this is my Pride Flag.
This is the flag that flew over Fort McHenry on the morning of September 14, 1814, to signal American victory over the British in the Battle of Baltimore; the sight inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.” It now hangs in the Smithsonian Institute.
God Bless America
